Around 30 local women gathered in Larne Town Hall this week for an important session on menopause awareness, organised by the Northern Area Community Network in partnership with Menopause Wellbeing NI and funded by Northern Healthy Lifestyle Partnership.
The event, held on Wednesday 10th September, was coordinated by Amanda McAuley, Project Coordinator of The WEE Group Project. It formed part of an ongoing programme to promote health, wellbeing, and greater community understanding of issues affecting women across the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council area.
Speaking after the session, Mrs McAuley said: “It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout. The conversation around menopause is growing, but there is still a real need for open discussion, education, and practical guidance. Events like this help empower women in our community to manage their health and wellbeing with confidence.”
The interactive workshop was delivered by a Menopause Awareness trainer from Menopause Wellbeing NI, Anne McGale, RGN, a womens’ health nurse for over 40 years. McGale provided practical advice, evidence-based information, and presented proven coping strategies. Topics covered included recognising symptoms, understanding treatment options, and navigating the workplace during perimenopause and menopause.
Trainer, Anne McGale, founder of Menopause Wellbeing NI commented: “The women of Larne showed huge enthusiasm and openness in engaging with the subject. Menopause can impact every woman differently, but with the right knowledge and support, the experience can be managed positively. It is about preparing them proactively in advance of symptoms. It’s encouraging to see organisations like the Northern Area Community Network taking the lead in raising awareness locally.”
Feedback from attendees highlighted the value of the session, with many expressing gratitude for the chance to learn in a supportive environment alongside others going through similar experiences.
The partnership between Menopause Wellbeing NI and the Northern Area Community Network reflects a wider movement across Northern Ireland to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and support women both in the community and workplace.
This Larne event marks another step forward in strengthening health education initiatives in the Mid and East Antrim borough. Further community sessions are planned in the coming months to ensure women across the region can access resources and support.
